It's a shame about Prodi but what about Detroit?

Another Italian administration has bitten the dust, and prime minister Romano Prodi is once again not the prime minister of Italy. That means new elections, and who knows, maybe even another Berlusconi administration!

Italians are said to have less confidence in their political leaders than at any time in the last 50 years.

But what are the Italians reading and emailing to eachother in this moment of political uncertainty?

Here's a headline from the fourth most-read story on the Web site of the Corriere della Sera, one of the leading newspapers in Italy:

"Detroit, gli sms scandalosi del sindaco"

Translation: "The Detroit Mayor and his scandalous text messages"

I actually don't want to suggest that Italians are not concerned about their political situation. The movement behind Beppe Grillo's anti-politician, take-back-the-country stance says otherwise.

Rather, I think Italy is too interested in America!

And sex!
