I took this photo a year ago when we stopped briefly in the birthplace of the Italian monk, Padre Pio (now a saint). The photo shows the entrance of his home, which contains a stone slab he used as a pillow.
He's from the tiny little village of Pietralcina, in the province of Campania -- now the destination for thousands (millions?) of religious pilgrims from all over the world.
An odd combination -- the visitors, many of them nuns, priests and Franciscan brothers, walking through narrow, medieval streets clogged with tacky tourist stands hawking Padre Pio snowglobes!
Ahh that was some vacation....seems like a millions years ago!
