Primo Levi: Eventi

On the occasion of the presentation of the Grinzane-Masters Award to author Philip Roth, the Italian Cultural Institute of New York and the Associazione Premio Grinzane Cavour commemorate the life and works of Primo Levi on the twentieth anniversary from his death (April 11, 1987).

According to notes for the event, "Levi is perhaps the writer who more than any other testified to the intellectual bewilderment in front of human brutality." Levi is known primarily for his work "Survival in Auschwitz," an account of how he survived a Nazi concentration camp during World War II.

The facts surrounding his death in 1982 remain controversial, with some saying he committed suicide, while others maintain he accidentally fell down the stairs of his apartment building.

Levi won the first edition of the Grinzane Prize in 1982. Philip Roth has written about Levi and met him many times.
