I found this photo on Flickr. It shows an angle of the Santa Maria Novella train station in Florence that I have never seen and that probably many tourists have never seen.
Absolutely chilling to read: "Santa Maria Novella fu la loro ultima visione di Firenze prima dell'Olocausto."
ADDENDUM: I realized after I posted this photo that you really can't read it well unless you enlarge it so I will tell you what it says.
It reads: On March 8, 1944, more than 1,000 residents of the city and region were arrested, enclosed in sealed box cars and taken away by the Nazis and Fascists from this train station to concentration camps.
Their last glimpse of Florence before the Holocaust was the Santa Maria Novella train station.

ReplyDeleteQuesta scritta se non sbaglio si trova all'inizio di uno dei primi binari, no nricordo se il 2, il 3 o il 4, comunque quelli a sinistra da dove partono in genere i treni locali.
Ti confesso che anch'io, che sono nata e vivo da semrpe a Firenze, l'ho notata per la prima votla non moltissimo tempo fa.

Io, come blogghista, ultimamente non sono stata molto attenta; speriamo che ora mi sia di nuovo sisemata ad Atlanta, posso scrivere più spesso.
Ma figurati che non hai mai notato questa scritta a SMN. Io invece mi sono dedicata a cercare le scritte che fanno vedere fino a che punto l'Arno è salito il 4 Novembre 1966 (a volte si vedono anche le scritte per le alluvioni più vecchie).
