Food, glorious food -- Weekend edition!


Ciambellina and Il Nostro Inviato were very busy in the kitchen this weekend.

Take a look at what we cooked up! (Or ate; we are not against eating good food other people have made).

From the top, Farro salad with Fried Cauliflower and Prosciutto. A bit of an unusual recipe, in large part because the star is farro, or spelt -- something we don't eat much in Amerca. The fried cauliflower were delicious, though it wasn't easy to reach the high-frying temperature needed.

Poi: pizza fatta in casa -- homemade pizza. The photo is not the best but the homemade crust, the thickly-cut prosciutto and the carmelized onions were indeed the best.



We washed it all down with a bottle of Planeta La Segreta 2006, which is from Sicily.

Last but not least, gelato. Yes, Italian ice cream -- and my favorite flavor, no less: nocciola (hazelnut).


For you local folks, I bought it at Your Dekalb Farmers Market, which I dare say may be a bit like Eataly in Torino, except there are foods from every corner of the globe, and lots of local produce as well. Not sure why, but the Ciao Bella brand uses the plural of the word (nocciole), which I have never seen in Italy.

But the gelato is good! And you can't beat that name (you could translate it as, "Hi Gorgeous!").

Somehow we still found time for a spin in the Little Red Car. The weather in Atlanta lately has been absolutely fabulous -- Alfa Romeo convertible weather, as you can see.

    Bentornato da queste parti. Si fin'ora mi sono ambientata abbastanza bene qui ad Atlanta (anche se non ho trovato un lavoro).

    Tu vivi a Los Angeles quindi forse puoi concordare che vivere in una grande città ti offre piu opportunità per divertirsi, anche per conoscere diversi tipi di persone e per svolgere progetti di un certo rilievo. E poi, qui in America, vivere in una grande città ti offre la possibilità di aver a che fare con diverse culture.

    Si, sono io accanto alla macchina. Un po' ingrassata, a dire la verità! E' giunto il momento di ricominciare a nuotare a vasce. Senno, va a finire che divento un baleno, come si suol dire qui.

  5. Ciao Bella is pretty easy to come by here in the Boston area ... you can get it at your local Shaw's supermarket. I've tried their Vaniglia and Pistachio so far. They have a maple walnut, or some such, too ... and then 3 or 4 flavors of sorbetto where I shop. A little pricey, but not far off the Ben and Jerry's prices. Yummy.

    I always hesitate when I see something like gelato here. It's so hard for us to replicate it -- it's like bread. Our water is different and I always think that prevents us from making bread that is exactly like you buy in Italy.

    The gelato is good -- nocciola is the greatest flavor ever. I always get that in Italy. I was looking for 'riso' -- yes rice flavor -- because that's what Mike always gets in Italy. Have you seen that flavor by Ciao Bella?
